Clayton takes on its on existence at the western edge of Smyrna. Here DE 6 and DE 15 meet, forming the southwest corner of the town.
DE 15 is an afterthought of Delaware state routes. Several segments of back roads (that parallel US 13) were connected with the number 15, and since few of those segments directly connect, DE 15 has several short duplexes along other state routes (like DE 6) to accomplish a contiguous route.
After a mile of following DE 6, DE 15 splits off to the south toward another back road and then a duplex with DE 300.
The same location, the western split, as seen from DE 6 eastbound, heading toward Clayton and Smyrna.
Curously, in the eastbound direction, the DE 6 and DE 15 signs stand separately and some distance apart. This signing choice is rare in Delaware but common in other states, like Massachusetts.
As DE 6 enters Clayton, DE 15 splits off to the north toward another multiplex with US 301/DE 299.
