Southbound on DE 141/Basin Road at the beginning of the DE 9/DE 273 and Truck DE 9/DE 273 duplexes and the southern end of DE 141. DE 9 skirts the perimeter of New Castle, taking DE 273 with it to the left.

A left turn begins the DE 9/DE 273 duplex, which then ends on the east side of town where DE 9/DE 273/Ferry Cut Off Street meets DE 9/East 6th Street. Here DE 273 ends, and DE 9 continues northbound to the left on Sixth Street. DE 9 used to traverse New Castle to the right on Sixth Street but was relocated to bypass the downtown area by following DE 273, which was never truncated.
