I-95(N-S)/US 202(N-S) Duplex

 

Interstate 95 and US Route 202 join for a 7-mile, same-way duplex through Wilmington in New Castle County.

Ahead at Exit 5, US 202 leaves the I-95 freeway and joins the DE 141 freeway south to US 202's end at US 13/US 40.

Now on I-95 north at Exit 5A for DE 141. I-95 widens as it splits into three interstates in the next few miles. US 202 enters the picture at Exit 5 from the US 202/DE 141 duplex to the south.

Next, I-495 splits from I-95/US 202 here. I-495 bypasses most of Wilmington, while I-95/US 202 serves the town.

The exits for I-295 and I-495 are unnumbered in this state with sequential exit numbers. The next two exits are Exit 6 for DE 4 and Exit 7 for DE 52. Then at Exit 8, US 202 splits off to the north toward Pennsylvania.

Now southbound on US 202 at the northern split. US 202 used to continue straight into Wilmington, but US 202 was moved to follow I-95 and DE 141 south to US 13/US 40. Here at the northern split, US 202 exits onto I-95, while DE 202 continues into Wilmington on the old alignment.

US 202 exits at Exit 5A to join DE 141. At this point, I-95 south is in several different pieces. To the left of the left guard rail, I-295 is still merging while its left lane exits to DE 141 north. I-95 has three thru lanes and two lanes exiting, one as a collector/distributor lane leading to the US 202/DE 141 south exit and the other lane as the exit ramp to DE 141 north.
