US Route 301 and Delaware Route 896 join for 8 miles from Glasgow
to Mount Pleasant in New Castle County. The southern three miles are joined by
Delaware Route 71 for the US 301/DE 71/DE 896 triplex.

US 301's commonly mis-signed northern terminus was finally explicitly posted in 2004. US 301 begins along DE 896 at the intersection with US 40.

US 301 used to follow two corridors in northern Delaware. Here on US 301/DE 896 north, US 301 once turned to follow US 40 east.

The overhead signs at the same location show the old extension along US 40. Today, US 301 ends here where US 301/DE 896 meets US 40. DE 896 continues northward to Newark and more multiplexes.

A closer view of the intersection of US 301/DE 896 and US 40. US 40 runs left-right, and DE 896 north continues straight ahead. US 301 ends at this intersection.

Eastbound on US 40 at the
US 301/DE 896 Glasgow bypass, east of town in 2001. Douglas Kerr writes: This is actually
the northern terminus of US 301, although signs still direct drivers to the original
US 13/301 duplex to the east (US 301 was relocated in the early 1990s). Also notice
the void between East US 40 and TO North US 301. Signs originally directed traffic
to northbound I-95 via US 40, and southbound I-95 via DE 896 (south has been greened
out on the DE 896 panel).

David Greenberger 5/23/02
Southbound on I-95 at the
interchange with DE 896. US 301 never reached as far north as here, and so the middle sign should read DE 896 South TO US 301
.
US Route 301 and Delaware Route 71 join for 6 miles from Mount Pleasant
to Frogtown Crossing in New Castle County. The northern three miles of the duplex
are joined by Delaware Route 896 for the US 301/DE 71/DE
896 triplex.

US 301 north on the Middletown bypass. DE 71 joins
US 301 from the south.

The southern split as seen from US 301/DE 71 south.
DE 71 leads into Middletown, while US 301 darts to the Maryland border.
