Counties.

Next up is MD 75, which connects to a tiny segment of MD 144 (Old US
40) that serves the town of New Market just north of this freeway.
Timothy Reichard 8/25/02
This MD 144 is another segment of Old US 40, just a couple of miles west
of the New Market segment. This segment begins here and heads into the
center of Frederick.

Before MD 144 gets to Frederick, it meets I-70/US 40 at another interchange.

South Street leads to the southeastern part of Frederick and then to
MD 144.

The Frederick area is full of freeway duplexes. Soon I-70/US 40 will
split. US 40 takes up I-270's mainline and briefly joins US
15, which splits from US 340.
Timothy Reichard 8/25/02
MD 355 is the successor to the decommissioned US 240, which met both
US 40 (now MD 144) and US 340 in town. I-270 bypassed and replaced US
240, which was renumbered MD 355. MD 85 begins just south of this interchange.
Timothy Reichard 8/25/02
After almost 30 miles of sharing the same freeway, US 40 soon splits
off from I-70. US 15/US 40 bypasses Frederick to the west. There is no
need for Frederick to appear as the destination of this exit because westbound
traffic has already passed several Frederick exits.

The western split of I-70/US 40. US 40 goes to US 15, but is briefly
on its own between here and US 15. US 40 merges onto the mainline of I-270,
which ends at this interchange. This is Exit 53, and 44 miles ahead at
Exit 9, US 40 again joins I-70.

Now we take a briefer look at the duplex in the eastbound direction.
Here in Frederick, US 40 is leaving the mainline that instantl becomes
the beginning of I-270. US 40 heads directly onto the I-70 freeway.

The ramp from US 40 to I-70/US 40. US 40 follows the ramp, which winds
to the right and then back to the left.
