I-83(N-S)/I-695(E-W) Duplex

Interstates 83 and 695 join for a 1.4 mile duplex from Lutherville to Brooklandville in Baltimore County.

I-83 southbound one mile from the eastern-split interchange with I-695. This is exit 14 of I-83 and Exit 24 of I-695.

I-83 southbound widens from three lanes to four and splits. The direction of I-83 appears to have changed from south to west, but reassurance shields along the duplex keep I-83 as N-S.

Before I-83 merges onto I-695, signs hint that I-83 traffic should stay in their lanes without merging and that I-695 traffic should work their way to the left.

The I-83 lanes append to the side of I-695. These lanes will eventually split to the south on the Jones Falls Expressway.

Soon after I-83 enters the Baltimore Beltway, it prepares to exit.

The two lanes of I-83 that join I-695 remain separated until here, the western split. This is Exit 13 of I-83 and Exit 23A of I-695.

Now we travel onto and off of the beltway, this time following I-83 north leaving Baltimore.

I-83 leaves the Jones Falls Expressway on two lanes.

The exit ramp that I-83 follows heads down and under I-695 via a sharp curve, sharp enough to warrant this yellow cautionary speed limit sign.
