Maryland Routes 177 and 648 join for 1.17 miles near Lipins Corner in
Anne Arundel County. Technically, two segments of MD 648 (MD 648H to the
south and MD 648E to the north) meet and end at MD 177. Since both segments
are signed as MD 648 and signs suggest continuity between the segments,
the two routes are considered here as a signed duplex.

Most of MD 648 follows the Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, which was the
former alignment of MD 2 connecting Baltimore to Annapolis. When the MD
100 freeway was built, the new highway severed part of the Boulevard.
MD 648 now follows Waterford Road here to meet MD 177. The Old MD 648
is now MD 915.

MD 648 joins MD 177 for about a mile to return to the Baltimore-Annapolis
Boulevard.

The view from MD 177 west. MD 648 is signed with TO banners along the
"duplex."

Reassurance shields westbound. Curiously, MD 10 is a freeway bypass of
MD 648, and MD 100 is a freeway bypass of MD 177. The freeways join, too,
in the MD 10/MD 100 duplex.

Timothy Reichard 9/8/02
At the western split, MD 648 turns back onto the Boulevard.

Timothy Reichard 9/8/02
Now on MD 648 south at MD 177. Exits to MD 10 are a short walk to the
right.

Timothy Reichard 9/8/02
Eastbound reassurance shields. MD 177 was widened for the MD 10 interchange,
and here a little to the east, MD 177 narrows back to a two-lane road.

Timothy Reichard 9/8/02
At the eastern split, MD 648 returns to Waterford Road.
