MD 194 follows an eastern, two-lane bypass of the town. MD 550 joins the bypass. Traffic that does not join the duplex here will follow Liberty Road (Old MD 550) to meet Main Street (Old MD 194) at the southern split of the pre-bypass duplex.

The duplex last only a half mile. MD 550 turns left to meet its old routing west of town.

The northern split. MD 194 continues northward, becoming PA 194 in Pennsylvania. MD 550 travels to Thurmont, where it has a duplex with MD 77.
