US 1(N-S) (Baltimore)/Truck US 40(E-W) DuplexUS Route 1 and Truck US Route 40 join for 4.2 miles through Baltimore in Baltimore City.
Exits 6-7 of I-83 north in Baltimore. Exit 6 leads to US 1/Truck US 40, which follows North Avenue.

A few state routes end along US 1/Truck US 40. Saint Paul Street is a southbound-only street, and here MD 139 south ends from the north and MD 2 south begins to the south.
MD 45, the former US 111, follows Greenmount Avenue and also ends at US 1/Truck US 40.
To the east, US 1/Truck US 40 veers to the northeast on Bel Air Road.

A few blocks further, US 1/Truck US 40 encounters Erdman Avenue, which is MD 151. MD 151 begins to the right, and Truck US 40 joins MD 151 all the way to its end at US 40 and I-895.

Doubling back, another green truck route sign appears on US 1 south/Truck US 40 west/Bel Air Road.
Following North Avanue to Greenmount Avenue, which is where MD 45 begins. This is the only state route signed on North Avenue.

West of I-80, US 1/Truck US 40 meets Fulton Avenue, a north-only street carrying US 1. The next street is Monroe Street, where US 1 south turns to the south.
