US Route 301 and Maryland Route 5 used to join for a duplex extending 0.95 miles further south than the duplex extends today. MD 5 east-west through Waldorf is now Business MD 5, which by internal records ends at US 301 rather than following US 301 north to reconnect to MD 5 as a business route should connect. This implied US 301/Business MD 5 duplex is signed as US 301 alone or US 301/MD 5 (outdated).

Southbound on US 301/Business MD 5. Not all of the signs along the old US 301/MD 5 duplex have been updated now that Business MD 5 is the proper designation. Technically, this road is now US 301 alone.

Nearing the old southern split of US 301/MD 5 in Waldorf. MD 228 begins here, too.

A closer view of the intersection. Technically, Business MD 5 begins here to the left without following US 301.

Approaching the southern split from US 301 northbound.

Timothy Reichard 1/28/03
Northbound on US 301 at the southern split.

Signs on Business MD 5 as it meets US 301. MD 5 is no longer here.

Timothy Reichard 1/28/03
A mile to the north, Business MD 5 is implied to meet MD 5. This is the implied northern end of the US 301/Business MD 5 duplex and the true southern split of US 301/MD 5.
