near Milesburg in Centre County.

The two routes split a couple miles to the south in Wingate. Alternate US 220 continues southwestward on the old US 220 alignment to Martha Furnace. PA 504 begins here.

From the other direction, PA 144 north makes a left to join Alternate US 220
in Wingate. This intersection is the southern split of the duplex and was the western
end of the Milesburg-Bellefonte duplex mess, where I-80, US 220, Alternate US
220, PA 26, PA 144, PA 150, and PA 550 conspire to make eight connecting duplexes within
a few miles of each other. In 2004, PA 504 was extended east to this point, adding a ninth duplex, Alternate US 220/PA 504, to the mess.

Northeastbound on Alternate US 220/PA 144. Alternate US 220 was US 220 until 2002, when
US 220 was relocated to the Future I-99 freeway to the east. For historical photography
of this duplex, see the Old US 220/PA 144
duplex page.

Two miles to the north, PA 144 exits and PA 150 takes over at the partial-cloverleaf interchange. PA 144/PA 150 heads into Bellefonte. Alternate US 220 then begins its third of four back-to-back duplexes as Alternate US 220/PA 150.
