Heading westward on Alternate US 220 south/PA 144 north in Wingate. PA 144 splits off to the north to tease I-80 on its way to Snow Shoe. The Alternate US 220/PA 504 duplex and PA 504 itself begin straight ahead.

Reassurance shields westbound along the duplex. Before November 2002, neither Alternate US 220 nor PA 504 were designated along this stretch of road. Instead, the road was US 220. In November 2002, new US 220/Future I-99 opened to the east, and US 220 was relocated to the new freeway. Old US 220 became Alternate US 220 alone. Then in 2004, PA 504 was extended eastward from Unionville (its former end) to PA 144 in Wingate.

A few reassurance shields on Alternate US 220/PA 504 had not been updated with PA 504 shields by the end of 2004.

Other signs also had not been changed. This JCT PA 504 sign stands in Unionville along the duplex at PA 504's old end. The sign is now unnecessary.
