United States Business Route 1 and Pennsylvania Route 413 join in
a 1.0-mile-long, wrong-way duplex through Penndel in Bucks County

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
Signs along PA 413/Bellevue Road south in Penndel. A block before
meeting Business US 1, PA 513 begins and takes over Bellevue Road.
PA 413 continues southward on Durham Road to meet Business US 1. US
1 should be signed as Business US 1, which replaced US 1 in 1989 when
the Roosevelt Expressway was completed to the north.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
PA 413 meets Business US 1 just one block ahead and turns left to
join it. Business US 1 follows the Lincoln Highway for its entire
length between the ends of the US 1 Roosevelt Expressway bypass of
Penndel and neighboring boroughs. Before the bypass was built, US
1 followed the Lincoln Highway here, and the duplex was US 1/PA 413.
Curiously, this stretch of highway has been called "Route 1"
in three different ways: PA 1 in the mid-to-late 1920s, US 1 in the
late 1920s till late 1980s, and now Business US 1.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
Business US 1 is correctly signed on Durham Road northbond at the
Business US 1/PA 413 western split.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
Heading eastward on Business US 1 north/PA 413 south. The PA 413
shields along this stretch appear to be decades old, and Business
US 1 is often not signed at all.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
A mile to the east, Business US 1/PA 413 meets I-95 at an interchange,
and PA 413 south splits off immediately thereafter.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
Now heading west on Business US 1 south at the junctions of PA 413
and I-95.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
A left turn leads to PA 413 south.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
The I-95 interchange is next, and then Business US 1/PA 413 enters
Penndel. Business US 1 is again not signed here.
