Interstate 76 and United States Route 1 join for a mile in western
Philadelphia in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties.

Adam Froehlig
US 1 southbound on the Roosevelt Expressway Extension crossing the
Schuylkill River. Upon reaching the western shore, US 1 meets I-76/Schuylkill
Expressway at a high-speed interchange. US 1 then briefly joins I-76.

From I-76 west, the US 1 north (Roosevelt Boulevard) mainline joins
first at Exit 340B, then US 1 south's mainline (City Avenue) comes
a mile ahead at Exit 339. Due to the large traffic volumes and congestion,
US 1 south actually exits first, well before traffic from Roosevelt
Boulevard merges. The US 1 south exiting traffic parallels I-76/US
1 past the first exit.

Timothy Reichard 5/17/03
Traffic for US 1 north exits next to cross the Schuylkill River and
join US 1 north on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Adam Froehlig
Next, traffic from US 1/Roosevelt Boulevard merges from the right,
and the exit lane for US 1 south rejoins briefly to allow merging
US 1 traffic to change lanes to the left and continue on US 1 south.
The US 1 south exit lane acts like a short express lane, bypassing
the US 1 north interchange. US 1 south splits off to follow City Avenue,
which straddles the Philadelphia-Montgomery County Line.

Timothy Reichard 5/17/03
The traffic patterns are simpler on I-76 east. First US 1 south
exits on the right, directly onto City Avenue.

Timothy Reichard 5/17/03
Next, US 1 north merges from the right and then exits to the right
onto Roosevelt Boulevard.
