Interstate 80 and United States Alternate Route 220 join for 3 miles from Exit 158 near Milesburg to Exit 161 north of Bellefonte in Centre and Clinton Counties.

I-80 is announced on a big green sign at the Milesburg interchange of US 220/PA 144, PA 144/PA 150, and US 220/PA 150. The US 220/PA 144 duplex is now Alternate US 220/PA 144, and the US 220/PA 150 duplex is now Alternate US 220/PA 150.

Halfway along the Alternate US 220/PA 150 duplex, the northern split looms ahead and marks the western split of I-80/Alternate US 220, formerly I-80/US 220. ALT tabs were added to many of the green guide signs instead of replacing them. Oddly enough, the sign in the left photo was replaced with the goofed sign on the right. I-80 should be sign EAST with Alternate US 220. As it turns out, this is not the only sign goof with the directions of this I-80/Alternate US 220 duplex.

The northern split of Alternate US 220/PA 150 and the western split of I-80/Alternate US 220. PA 150 continues ahead to the north along US 220's former, pre-I-80 routing. Alternate US 220 joins the previous alignment of US 220.

Just past the overpasses, a left turn places one on a ramp to I-80 westbound.

On the other side of the interchange with I-80, and looking south, Alternate US 220 southbound enters from a cloverleaf ramp just past the onramp to I-80 west..

Three miles to the west, US 220 now follows the Bellefonte bypass expressway, which is US 220/PA 26 (formerly PA 26 alone). At the interchange with I-80, new guide signs were installed with the "ALT" designation instead of adding the ALT tabs. Here three duplexes meet. US 220/PA 26 splits, US 220 north follows I-80 east, and Alternate US 220 begins along I-80 west. This interchange will be rebuilt later this decade to allow the I-80 and Future I-99 freeways to meet.

The ramp leads to I-80 west/Alternate US 220 south. This is the alternate route's northern beginning, signed with a rare BEGIN banner. The first reassurance shields are a few feet down the road.
