Old US 222(N-S)/PA 724(E-W) Duplex

United States Route 222 and Pennsylvania Route 724 used to join for a mile through Shillington in Berks County. In November 2004, US 222 was relocated to the new expressway to the west (from PA 724 to US 422), and old US 222 became Business US 222.

Northbound on US 222 at the western split with PA 724 in August 2004 (before the US 222 relocation). Signs for the new US 222 were already posted by this time. A left at the traffic signal led immediately to the temporary US 222 north/PA 724 west duplex after November 2004.

By August 2004, all the NORTH banner signs were raised to make room for the BUSINESS plates later in the fall.

PA 724 continues westward as a rural alternative to traversing Reading. US 222 veered left here on its way to the Old US 222/US 422 freeway duplex.
