Northbound on PA 449 in Genesee. PA 244 joins from the left, and the duplex begins straight ahead through the heart of the village. PA 244's routing is new. Before 2002, PA 244 did not pass straight through Genesee but instead crossed PA 449 to the right here to cross the Genesee River and skirt north along the edge of Genesee. That bridge across the Genesee has been permanently removed, and so PA 244 has been rerouted along PA 449 to cross another bridge on the north side of the village.

Now that PA 244 follows the new routing, the route follows PA 449 through town.

At the north end of town, the street splits about a median. The two routes then split, less than a half mile from the New York border. PA 449 turns left, becomes NY 19, and serves Wellsville, NY. PA 244 turns right, crosses the Genesee River, becomes NY 248A, and serves Whitesville, NY.

PA 449 southbound meets PA 224 at the northern split T-intersection. This small town has room for two gas stations at the same intersection.
