US 119(N-S)/PA 56(W-E) Duplex

 

United States Route 119 and Pennsylvania Route 56 join for 3 miles through Homer City in Indiana County.

Southbound on the US 119 expressway bypass of Indiana at the interchange with Business US 422. PA 56 follows US 119 from the Indiana bypasses to Homer City. Note the unusual practice of placing a three-digit number (US 119) on a square, two-digit-sized shield.

PA 56 splits off to the east in Homer City. To the right is the old PA 56 alignment, now clumsily named Old Route 56 Highway West. The relocation put PA 56 on a speedier alignment once the southern Indiana bypass (US 422/PA 56) was completed in 1997.
