Timothy Reichard 8/6/02A few miles to the north, PA 147 becomes a super-two expressway before ending at I-80 & I-180 near Milton. The expressway is being upgraded to a four-lane freeway in 2002-2004. US 11 southbound passes under a railroad overpass and crosses the West Branch Susquehanna River, which merges with the North Branch Susquehanna River just south of Northumberland.

As part of the Shamokin Dam Bypass project, PA 147 through Northumberland is planned to be renumbered as a southern extension of PA 405 once the new highway is completed (2008?).
