United States Route 11 and Pennsylvania Route 42 join for a half-mile
same-way duplex in Bloomsburg in Columbia County.

PA 42 is a two-lane state route that was relocated decades ago to
handle traffic between I-80 and US 11 on the west side of Bloomburg.
PA 42 now meets US 11 at two trumpet interchanges separated by about
a half mile. This is US 11 northbound approaching the southern interchange.

The Catawissa exit takes you toward the PA
42/PA 487 duplex.

Timothy Reichard 8/6/02
Just past the interchange, PA 42 northbound traffic merges from the
right to follow US 11 or stays right to immediately exit to remain
on PA 42 northbound. Thus the duplex lasts only a few feet in the
northbound direction.

New overhead signs have recently replaced the old button-copy signs,
which showed both routes as a duplex. Since their replacement, no
reassurance shields exist along the duplex.

Just past the north interchange, the exit to the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds
provides these helpful signs. The exit ramp for US 11 southbound to
PA 42 northbound begins right here. US 11 meets PA
93 for a Berwick duplex, and until recently, US 11 joined PA 54
in Danville.

The same exit as seen on US 11 southbound, which widens to four lanes
upon leaving Bloomsburg and approaching the trumpet interchanges.

Just ahead, US 11/PA 42 are briefly joined as the duplex crosses
Fishing Creek.

PA 42 is also well signed with big green signs next to and above
the road. This is PA 42 northbound.

Just ahead, PA 42 exits to briefly merge with US 11.

PA 42 southbound approaching US 11 is signed similarly.
