US 11 and PA 581 join for two miles on the Capital Beltway from Camp
Hill to Sporting Hill in Cumberland County.

Timothy Reichard 7/24/02
US 11 joins PA 581 eastbound at Exit 3. PA 581 might be the only
PA state route with exit numbers, most likely because it will someday
be I-581, a three-digit spur of I-81. US 11 south from here and Old
US 11 north of here (prior to the relocation onto the PA 581 expressway)
is the Carlisle Pike. Neither PA 581 nor US 11 go to Gettysburgthat
journey is reserved for US 15.

Overhead guide signs direct traffic on the Carlisle Pike eastbound
(US 11 northbound), meeting PA 581 ahead.

Daniel Garnell 8/11/03
Eastbound on the Carlisle Pike. US 11 leaves the Pike and exits onto
PA 581.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
US 11 follows this onramp onto the PA 581 freeway. This is the last
stretch to be signed US 11 only for the next 60 miles to the north
(save for the ramp from PA 581 to US 15.

Reassurance shields for US 11 northbound/PA 581 eastbound.

Timothy Reichard 7/24/02
Exit 5 of PA 581 is a double split. US 11 leaves PA 581 and joins
US 15 in Camp Hill.

Timothy Reichard 7/24/02
US 15 south heads to Gettysburg, while US 11/US 15 northbound start
a 50-mile duplex to Shamokin Dam along the west shore of the Susquehanna
River.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
The US 11/PA 581 eastern split. The cloverleaf interchange has tightly
curved ramps and is quite congested at rush hour. PennDOT is studying
this intersection for a future upgrade to ease congestion and increase
safety. PA 581 ends at I-83 at the next exit.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
Here is the eastern split as seen from US 15 north. US 11 leavs PA
581 and joins US 15 here for the next
58 miles.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
The cloverleaf interchange where US 11, US 15 and PA 581 meet. This
is US 15 northbound again, with US 11 merging to from the left.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
Taking the exit onto the US 11/PA 581 duplex, the reassurance shield
for US 11 is not posted. A sound wall construction project is underway,
possibly the cause of the US 11 omission.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
Between the eastern and western splits is one other interchange,
for PA 641.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
The PA 641 interchange is a partial one. The offramp at this exit
leads to Central Boulevard, which leads here to PA 641. The other
ramp at this interchange is signed here, from PA 641 to US 11/PA 581
east.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
From the other direction of PA 641 (east), the signs for the interchange
are a combination of direction and junction, since there is no access
in the US 11 south/PA 581 west direction.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
The exit from PA 641 to US 11/PA 581.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
Back on the freeway, the next exit is for US 11.

Timothy Reichard 8/19/02
The western split. US 11 leaves the PA 581/Capitol Beltway to follow
the Carlisle Pike west to Carlisle. Before the Capitol Beltway was
built, US 11 followed the Carlisle Pike east into Camp Hill.
