US 11(N-S)/PA 93(S-N) Duplex

US 11 and PA 93 join for a half-mile wrong-way duplex through Berwick in Columbia County.

US 11 splits onto two one-way streets in Berwick, and PA 93 joins US 11 on those streets. Here both routes, signed in opposite directions, head eastward along one of the one-way streets heading toward the center of town.

Near the middle of town, PA 93 splits off to the south.

This little white sign points toward PA 93 southbound at the split. The sign used to read SR 2030, and this number can be read despite the tape and new numbers covering the old. The "2" is barely visible just left of the "93", and the last "0" can be partially seen just right of the "3". The river bridge was once a secondary route.

Here is another view of the split. US 11 northbound/PA 93 southbound enters from the right. PA 93 splits to head straight across the river bridge, which traverses the North Branch Susquehanna River to head toward Hazleton. US 11 continues from right to left toward Shickshinny and the US 11/PA 239 duplex.

Facing in the opposite direction, PA 93 sees this intersection as it meets US 11. US 11 southbound does not follow the street heading straight forward. PA 93 must continue one more block to meet US 11 southbound, which parallels the northbound US 11.

At the west side of town, PA 93 splits off from US 11. This shield is the first notice of the split. The two one-way streets through town merge just off to the left of the photo.

Overhead green signs let traffic know which lane to choose for following US 11 or PA 93.

PA 93 then angles off to the northwest toward Orangeville.

Turning around and facing to the east, US 11/PA 93 splits into two one-way streets here. The shields in the first photo can be seen by the sidewalk at the right in the distance.
