United States Route 19 and Pennsylvania Route 65 join for half a mile
through northwest Pittsburgh in Allegheny County.

PA 65 northbound at the interchange with US 19. The US 19/PA 65 begins
straight ahead on Ohio River Boulevard, which parallels the north shore
of the Ohio River northwestward leaving Pittsburgh.

Denny Pine 2003
US 19 uses PA 65's freeway for less than a mile. PennDOT did not bother
to sign US 19 on this stretch of US 19/PA 65 (SR 0019). The street below
and to the right of this bridge carries an older segment of US 19, SR
3919.

Denny Pine 2003
The exit for US 19 north. PA 65 north continues on Ohio River Boulevard,
whose expressway status ends here. The Boulevard continues as a multilane
highway with frontage roads SR 4265 taking over SR 3919. Not too many
secondary roads (SR) take on a number that is a variant of a US or state
highway (compare PA 65 with SR 4265 and US 19 with SR 3919).

Now heading south on US 19 as it becomes a ramp to US 19/PA 65 south.
PA 65 follows the freeway on the overpass. Note how old the US 19/PA
65 signs are. Beaver Avenue parallels the freeway.

Denny Pine 2003
Half a mile ahead, US 19 exits to cross the West End Bridge to the
south side of the Ohio River. The bridge is visible unde the Exit Only
sign.
