United States Routes 202 and 322 join for 8 miles from West Chester in Chester County to Painters Crossroads in Delaware County.

Timothy Reichard 5/18/03
Westbound on US 1/US 322 in Painters Crossing. US 322 leaves the duplex with US 1 to begin the US 202/US 322 duplex to the north.

US 202/US 322 is the divided four-lane Wilmington Pike, running north toward West Chester. The last three miles of the northbound duplex journey leaves the pike to bypass West Chester on an expressway alignment. The exit to the bypass is just ahead.

Old text signs indicate the beginning of the bypass. Before the bypass was built in the 1950s, the US 202/US 322 (and its earlier versions involving US 122 and PA 29) continued on the old alignment, now designated Business US 322/High Street, to the center of town. US 202 then split to the east on current PA 3 and Paoli Pike, while US 322 turned westward on the current Business US 322 routing.

Northbound on the West Chester Bypass. The bypass has several closely spaced interchanges after an at-grade intersection with Matlack Street.

Westtown Road serves eastern West Chester and the village of Westtown to the southeast.

PA 3 serves as the main east-west street into West Chester. Its alignment is that of one of Pennsylvania's first auto trails, PA 5, the Lakes-To-Sea Highway, which connected West Chester to Erie and Philadelphia.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
PA 3 westbound leads to Gay Street and meets Business US 322 at the center of town.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
The Paoli Pike is US 202's former alignment before the expressway was completed between West Chester and I-76. The blank line above "Paoli Pike" in this sign and the former sign probably read "US 202 NORTH" when the sign was installed in the 1950s.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
US 202's decades-old expressway continues northbound toward King Of Prussia after US 322 exits on its super-2 expressway bypass on the north side of West Chester.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
Now southbound on US 202/US 322 on the southern part of the West Chester Bypass. The trumpet interchange with Business US 322/High Street is ahead, and there the expressway ends.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
Eastbound at the end of Business US 322 at US 202/US 322. More old signs still stand overhead here as on the bypass.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
At the merger of High Street and the bypass, US 202/US 322 is signed on the Wilmington Pike.

Timothy Reichard 2/13/05
Miles to the south, US 322 leaves US 202 to start a duplex with US 1 toward Concordville, while US 202 heads straight for Wilmington, Delaware.
