US 219(N-S)/PA 948(N-S) Duplex

 

US 219 and PA 948 join for a 4 mile same-way duplex from Ridgway to Boot Jack in Elk County.

Here are the standard signs as PA 948 northbound joins US 219 at the southern split. The intersection makes up much of the town of Boot Jack. David Slauenwhite describes the duplex from here to Ridgway as a "spectacular descent." Trucks have three escape ramps and a one-way downhill truck route between here and Ridgway. The truck route forms not only an auxiliary route Truck US 219 but also a duplex with PA 120. The truck route then rejoins US 219/PA 948 a block from the northern split in Ridgway. One might consider that a Truck PA 948 could also exist along the truck route. Cars can take US 219 from the southern split to Ridgway instead, and they also have three escape ramps at their disposal.
