US 422(E-W)/PA 56(E-W)/Truck PA 286(E-W) Triplex

Pennsylvania Truck Route 286 joins US 422/PA 56 for two miles south of Indiana in Indiana County.

Southbound on US 119/Truck PA 286 at the southern split of that duplex. Truck PA 286 exits US 119 and joins US 422/PA 56 here.

Now westbound on US 422 at the same interchange. The first exit, Exit B, leads to US 119 north/Truck PA 286 east, bypassing Indiana to the east.

The second exit, Exit A, marks the start of Business US 422, whick follows the previous routing of US 422, intially joining US 119 south/PA 56 east.

A closer view of the middle of the interchange. Both PA 56 and Truck PA 286 leave US 119 to join US 422 straight ahead to bypass Indiana on the south side.

Reassurance shields westbound. US 422 is signed separate from Truck PA 286, and occasionally PA 56 shields are also posted.

Truck PA 286 exits at the next interchange, a diamond interchange with PA 286. The truck route ends upon meeting PA 286, and the freeway remains US 422/PA 56.

 

 

US 422(E-W)/PA 56(E-W) Duplex

 

United States Route 422 and Pennsylvania Route 56 join for 10 miles from south of Indiana to Shelocta in Indiana County.

Westbound on the Indiana bypass just west of the interchange with PA 286 and Truck PA 286. The freeway bypass last two miles west of PA 286.

US 422/PA 56 remain joined for another 6 miles. Then the two routes split in Shelocta. PA 56 joins PA 156 at the latter's beginning, while US 422 continues westbound for Kittanning.
