The PA 147 Super-2 Expressway
  Interchange
Construction
August 2002

Northbound on PA 147. By August 2002, excavations had not begun as far
north as PA 254. The onramp from PA 642 meets the highway at a stop sign
ahead.

This is the last curve on the freeway before it becomes four lanes two
miles ahead.

Between the PA 642 and PA 254 interchanges, the first of three new bridges
sits above Limestone Run. The three new bridges, completed in 2001, will
carry the new northbound lanes of PA 147.

The second such bridge is an overpass over PA 254, which can be seen
below at the right.

Now we hop down to PA 254 eastbound approaching PA 147.

Timothy Reichard 8/11/02
The PA 254 interchange is a diamond interchange with lots of I-80 trailblazers.
Note the design of the old PA 147 overpass.

Timothy Reichard 8/11/02
On the other side of the interchange. PA 147 is the fastest way to I-80,
but PA 254 has an interchange with I-80 to the east.

Timothy Reichard 8/11/02
Turning around, we can take a better look at the old and new overpasses.
This is PA 254 westbound.

Timothy Reichard 8/11/02
There is lots of brown grass around the new overpass. The old overpass
is in the distance.

Timothy Reichard 8/11/02
We encounter the new overpass first. The design is quite different from
the old overpass.
