The PA 147 Super-2 Expressway
Pre-Construction April 2002

PA 147 northbound at the south end of the super-2 expressway. This is
also where PA 405 begins.

Two lanes, no side roads, no homes, no businesses. Just trees. There
is a green guide sign in the distance.

The first interchange is with PA 45. Both Montandon and Lewisburg are
to the west. PA 147 used to run between the towns.

A closer view of the offramp. Pay attention to the terrain to the right
of the highway. When PA 147 is upgraded to a four-lane expressway, new
northbound lanes will appear off to the right. The current two lanes will
become southbound lanes.

The PA 147 expressway was intended as an eastern Milton bypass. There
are three Milton exits: Industrial Park Road, Mahoning Street (PA 642),
and Broadway (PA 254).

The Industrial Park Road exit, which gives access to southern Milton.

The PA 642 exit photos were lost on this trip. Just north of the PA 642
exit, signs of the upcoming four-laning are apparent. The first of the
two construction contracts did nothing more than build 3 of the 4 new
northbound bridges. The 3 bridges were completed in 2001. This bridge
is an overpass over PA 642.

The last of the three exits is for Broadway, or PA 254. The onramp from
PA 642 enters from the right, ending (like all onramps to a super-2 expressway)
with a stop sign.

Timothy Reichard 4/27/02
The PA 254 exit. A second bridge has been built for the future northbound
lanes over PA 254.
