Southbound on US 15 entering Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania from New
York. Construction on a I-99/US 15 bypass of Lawrenceville began in
2003, so this entrance will soon be a historic entrance.

In the late 1920s and most of the 1930s, US 15 extended only as far
north as old US 11/Carlisle Pike in Lemoyne.

Before the Gettysburg bypass was built, US 15 followed its old two-lane
routing, now Business US 15 north of the state line. Two miles south
of the US 15 interchange and a half mile north of the next US 15 junction,
Business US 15 meets the state line and ends. The remaining southern
portion of the old US 15 alignment is a county road in Maryland.

Timothy Reichard 6/8/03
A Frederick County welcome sign stands at the pavement change. Below
that sign is a little white sign that reads SR 3001 END SEG, indicating
that the last segment of SR 3001 (Business US 15) ends here.

Timothy Reichard 6/8/03
At the same spot, but looking northward. The state line bisects a
passing zone, but Pennsylvania signs a PASS WITH CARE sign anyway.

Timothy Reichard 6/8/03
Just ahead, a small welcome sign appears as the road enters Adams
County, Pennsylvania.

Also near the state line is the first northbound reassurance shield.

US 15 crosses the Potomac River, which serves as a natural state
boundary for Virginia and Maryland.

The Catoctin Mountain was eroded away by the Potomac. This bridge
sits where the mountain would be if the Potomac had chosen another
path. Incidentally, US 15 is the Catoctin Mountain Highway throughout
Maryland.
