Just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, a divided highway was built to
bypass Emmitsburg. US 15 was moved to that bypass while the old US
15 (Seton Avenue) through the town was internally designated Business
US 15. For whatever reason, there are no signs anywhere that visibly
indicate that Seton Avenue is Business US 15. Thus Emittsburg has
a hidden business route. The north end of this business route meets
both US 15 and Welty Avenue, which connects immediately to the segment
of old US 15 that leads into Pennsylvania. Only a half mile of that
segment is in Maryland, and upon reaching the state line, the road
becomes Business US 15/Emmitsburg Pike. Thus there is a half mile
gap between the two business routes in Emmitsburg and Gettysburg.
