Timothy Reichard 6/27/04
Eastbound on MD 144/Lombard Street at US 1/Fulton Avenue northbound. MD 144 was formerly US 29/US 40 from Ellicott City to here, where US 29 probably ended. US 1 southbound follows Monroe Street a block behind the camera, and MD 144 westbound follows Frederick Avenue a block to the left. If only one street was used for historic US 29/US 40, the street was probably Frederick Avenue.

Timothy Reichard 9/28/02
Northbound on US 29 at the interchange with US 40. Before US 29 was extended north to meet I-70 and MD 99, US 29 ended at the site of this interchange at US 40, but probably with an at-grade intersection instead of an interchange. In that case, the exit lanes shown here for US 40 east were probably the northbound lanes of US 29, and the current ramp from US 40 west to US 29 south probably contains a slightly shifted version of the old US 29 southbound lanes. Construction to widen this part of US 29 completed in 2003.

US 29 in central Maryland is an alternating freeway and expressway,
ending here as an expressway at MD 99 just north of I-70 and north of the old end at US 40.

Timothy Reichard 10/04/02
Eastbound along MD 99/Old Frederick Road at US 29's northern beginning.
MD 99 also ends at this intersection.

The other leg of this 3-way intersection is Rogers Avenue, which
used to extend MD 99 southeastward to meet US 40. At the intersection,
Rogers Avenue becomes MD 99/Old Frederick Road, and US 29 begins to
the left.

29 Ends page on Dale Sanderson's site.
