	A Brief History

Alternate US 220 was signed in November 2002 to take over the old alignment of US 220. The US 220/Future I-99 was opened north of State College, and US 220 was relocated to the new alignment, overlapping parts of US 322 and PA 26 as well. Alternate US 220 now runs from US 220/US 322 in Martha Furnace northeastward to I-80 and eastward along I-80 to meet US 220/PA 26. The alternate route overlaps with PA 144, PA 150, and I-80.

Northbound on US 220/PA 26 at the interchange with I-80/Alternate US 220. Alternate US 220 begins at this interchange.

Just ahead, junction signs for I-80/Alternate US 220 are posted with an old, now unnecesary, junction sign for US 220. Before the relocation, US 220 followed I-80 where Alternate US 220 follows it today (west from this interchange), and US 220 did not follow PA 26 as it does today.

Northeastbound on US 220/US 322 at the old northern split of the US 220/US 322 duplex. US 220 now continues to follow US 322 and exits here, while Alternate US 220 continues ahead on old 220.
