Atherton Street was resigned as Business US 322 when the US 322 northern
bypass was completed in the mid 1980s. The business route traverses
historic Boalsburg as well as State College, where the central campus
of the Pennsylvania State University is located. The western end interchange
was partially reconstructed in the early 2000s as US 322 was upgraded
to interstate standards as part of the I-99/US 220 project. The eastern
end interchange may or may not be rebuilt as a result of the planned
southeastward extension of the US 322 freeway. Business US 322 is
locally known as Atherton Street along its entire length.

of the State College bypass. This section of highway became US 220/US
322 in November 2002, and the covered-up US 220 shield is no longer
covered up. By 2007, the blank spot will be filled with an I-99 shield.
