A Brief History
422

New for the third millennium, Business US 422 was signed as the eastern Kittanning bypass was opened late in 2001. US 422/PA 28/PA 66 was moved onto this extension of the southern Kittanning bypass, and Business US 422 took over the original, pre-southern-bypass routing of US 422 straight through the town. Business US 422 is locally known as Indiana Road (east of town), Water Street (in town), Butler Road (in West Kittanning), and follows PA 268 to their mutual end at US 422 west of West Kittanning.

Eastbound on the new Business US 422 as it ends at the interchange with US 422/PA 28/PA 66. US 422 leaves the freeway and takes over straight ahead, while a left turn puts you on an onramp to PA 28/PA 66.

US 422 eastbound at the PA 268 exit, which has been resigned for the new Business US 422 designation. Business US 422 is well signed on the Kittanning bypass but poorly signed on its actual roadway.
